Facel Vega HK500 1961

The car’s history

After production, this Facel Vega HK500 (one of 489 built) was shipped to the United States in 1961. Not much later, it was registered in California. From 1964 to today, the car only served three owners. It stayed in Long Beach (Los Angeles) for 40 years in the family of William Mallin. In 2004, the current Dutch owner bought the HK500 from Mallin’s son and shipped the car to the Netherlands.

Restoration..

The new owner decided to partly restore the car. A professional resprayed was carried out. All documents, bills and photo’s of the restoration are available for those who are interested. Here are just a few examples of the restoration work that was carried out:
. All stainless steel parts polished
. New paint job (black) with glass protection
. Straight panels and door fittings in perfect condition
. New front windscreen all other glass still original and in good condition
. Several mechanical parts renewed or overhauled

..with preservation of original details

However almost 60 years old, a quick glance at the interior will show how nice the car has been treated over those years. The dashboard is completely original with all meters functioning properly. Renewing the complete interior wasn’t even necessary, so this HK500 still has the original leather parts. Restored but as original as can be: just check the photo’s of the patinated chairs. And although hidden underneath new ones, even the original carpets survived!
