Porsche 911 S Targa ‘Restomod’ (1981)

Porsche 911 S Targa ‘Restomod’ (1981)

Much of our work at JB Classic Cars is about restoring cars to as original a condition as possible. But sometimes we can also appreciate a unique project like this 1981 Porsche 911 Targa ‘Restomod’. The current owner has used the best parts from various periods to create what he considers to be the ultimate 911 Targa.

According to the registration papers, this is a 1981 Porsche 911 SC Targa. But in the engine bay we find the reliable 2,7-litre engine and gearbox from an 1974 911S Targa. The engine has been completely overhauled and fitted with numerous upgrades. New Mahle cylinders and pistons were installed, as well as electronic ignition, hydraulic chain tensioners and reinforced valve covers of a 911 Turbo.

The injection system was also completely overhauled and the engine was fitted with a full stainless steel SSI exhaust system. Finally, an original Porsche short shift system was installed. All in all, these changes provide a much improved driving experience and increased reliability.
Wider wheels with unique gold rims required enlarged rear wings, giving the car better roadholding and a sportier attitude. The car is painted in amazing Minerva blue with lots of small one-off details. Clearly not suitable for the purist, this 911 Targa ‘Restomod’ is a fantastic car for the man or woman who wants the best of different times. In addition to the engine overhaul, the Porsche has been fully serviced and is ready to go.
